Allergy 過敏：
過敏是因為自我免疫系統對一些沒有害的物質的過度活躍反應，這些物質被稱為過敏原，任何一種物質都可能會成為過敏原。塵、花粉或動物毛髮等是引致花粉症或哮喘的過敏原。牛奶、雞蛋、小麥、蜀米等是常見的食物過敏原。藥物或金屬也是常見的過敏原。
Allergies are due to hyper-reactions of the immune system to a particular normally harmful substance in the environment. These substances, called allergens, can be anything. Allergens to hay fever or asthma are dust, pollen or animal hair. Milk, eggs, wheat and corn are frequent source of food allergies. Medicines and metals are also common allergens.
Autoimmune Disease 自我免疫系統疾病：
患上自我免疫系統疾病的人，免疫系統會錯誤地自我攻擊，包括細胞、組織及器官等，從而導致身體各種的傷害，甚至引致死亡。
導致自我免疫系統疾病的至今原因仍然未明，荷爾蒙、先天毛病和環境可能是最主要的原因。
大概有超過80種的疾病都跟自我免疫系統疾病有關系，包括愛滋病、紅斑狼瘡、類風濕關節炎、多發性硬化病、糖尿病I型、重症肌無力症、纖維肌痛症、慢性疲勞徵候群、克隆氏症、橋本氏甲狀腺炎、格雷氏疾病、阿狄森氏病、急性無力肢體痲痹、硬皮病、甲狀腺機能亢進、雷氏症候群等等。
If a person has an autoimmune disease, the immune system mistakenly attacks self, targeting the cells, tissues, and organs of a person's own body. Thus it causes different degree of damage, even worse death.
The cause of autoimmune diseases is not fully known or understood, however, it is suspected that hormones, heredity and environmental factors all play a major role in the cause and onset of these types of diseases.
There are more than 80 types of autoimmune diseases including AIDS, Lupus or Systemic Lupus Erythematosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Insulin dependent Diabetes I, Myasthenia Gravis, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Crohn's Disease, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Grave's disease, Addison's disease, Guillian Barre Syndrome, Scleroderma, Hyperthyroidism, Reye's syndrome, etc.
Lupus 紅斑狼瘡：
紅斑狼瘡是一種自我免疫系統疾病，患者的臉上出現紅腫而類似狼的模樣，所以被稱為紅斑狼瘡。紅斑狼瘡分為兩種，系統性紅斑狼瘡 (SLE) 是最嚴重的一種，會影響全身的連接組織，可導致關節炎、發燒、體重減輕、疹、腎臟、肺部和心臟等等。盤狀紅斑狼瘡只是皮膚受到影響。
Lupus is an autoimmune disease. It is called lupus, meaning wolf, because it gives the face a wolf-like resemblance. Lupus appears in either two forms. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a serious illness and affects the connective tissue in all parts of the body such as causing arthritic, fever, weight loss, rash, kidney, lungs and heart, etc. And discoid lupus is limited only to the skin.
